Human Beings, Torah, Earth, and the Divine
with Deirdre Gabbay
For the diaspora Jewish community, the Torah has long served as a “portable homeland.” It is time to unscroll this ancient text and lay it across the surface of the land itself. We have perhaps never since the time of Noah been so in need of enduring wisdom on how to live with integrity in relationship with the Earth, and one another, as we are today. What wisdom does the Hebrew Bible hold for us?
In this class we will encounter texts from Torah, Talmud, and Kabbalah, as well as a range of contemporary texts, that speak to the relationship between the human being and the Earth. We will place texts old and new into conversation with one another, and engage with them through both large and small group study.

Dates: Oct. 13 – Dec. 15, 2020 (10 sessions)
