Is Israel Heading Towards a Constitutional Crisis?

Israel’s new government has introduced a blitz of new legislation and rulings in its first few weeks on the judiciary, policing, rule in the occupied territories, the environment, and religion. Many former officials and ordinary citizens have protested (including a demonstration of 80,000 people in Tel Aviv last Saturday night), claiming that these changes will destroy Israel’s democracy. Prof. Migdal will analyze the changes and assess the risk to Israeli democracy.

Joel S. Migdal is the Robert F. Philip Professor of International Studies in the University of Washington's Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies. He is a political scientist specializing in comparative politics.
