Lomir lernen a bisl Yiddish tsuzamen!
with Marianne Tatom
Marianne is an enthusiastic Yiddishist and klezmer clarinetist, a member of Congregation Beth Shalom, and a 2018-2019 Yiddish Pedagogy Fellow at the Yiddish Book Center, headquartered in Amherst, MA. Her year-long Yiddish class, the first in Beth Shalom’s 50-year history, will use materials from the Yiddish Book Center’s new textbook, “In Eynem” (“As One”). Together, we will use the Yiddish language to socialize and converse with classmates, delve into texts for cultural and artistic insights, and draw on multimedia Yiddish sources from different time periods, geographical regions, and points on a wide-ranging religious and political spectrum. Students should familiarize themselves with the alef-beys before the first class (online guide available at https://www.yiddishbookcenter.org/language-literature-culture/learn-yiddish-alphabet). For questions about the class, please contact Marianne Tatom.
Time: Wednesday nights, 7:00-8:00pm
Dates: Class begins Sept 26 (25 sessions)
Cost*: $125/Member, $175/Non-member
The lower tuition for this class has been made possible thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor.
