Congregation Beth Shalom is using Zoom to hold online classes and gatherings. Here is how to get started.
Sign up for Zoom. Signing up for Zoom is free and quick. Just visit https://zoom.us/signup
Join an online event. Once you have signed up, you can now access the link to join an online event. Here is a quick video on how to use a link to join a Zoom event: https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362193
Choose whether you are using video. When you join a Zoom event, you can choose whether other people see video of you. On this screen click on “Join with Video” (blue button) if you want others to see you. Click “Join without Video” (white button) if you do not want others to see you.
During an event you can start/stop your video and audio. After you are in a meeting, you can choose to stop your video at any time by using the button in the bottom left of your screen. When there is a red slash through the video camera icon, your video is off. You can restart it at any time by clicking the same button:
You can also mute or unmute your audio at any time using the microphone icon in the bottom left corner of your screen. You may want to be muted when you are not talking, so there is less background noise for everyone. When there is a red slash through the microphone icon, you are muted. Whenever you want to speak, click that same button to unmute yourself:
For more on using your video and audio, you can watch this quick video:
Joining by phone. If you don’t have access to internet, or your Zoom link is not working, you can join a Zoom event by calling on your phone. All of our events include a phone number to call and meeting ID to enter to join this way. This will allow you to talk to everyone in the virtual event, but there will be no video for you to see them or them see you. Please do not join an event by calling on your phone and clicking the link to join on your phone or computer at the same time. This will cause loud audio feedback.
